Spookyghost to play solo show in Rockwood 3 NYC March 19th

Greetings all,

I am happy to announce that Spookyghost will play a solo show in New York City on Thursday March 19th at 7 pm. The show will be at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 3.

It is a ticketed event and admission is $10. Tickets are available at Ticketfly here.

Running time for the show is one hour.

It’s been way too long since the ghost has played his own music live and this should be a really fun night. The new Spookyghost three album is under way and there will be pieces from all three albums performed.

It would be great to see you all.
And feel free to post and pass this on.

And if you have any requests then send them on to me at ghostsitemailbox@gmail.com .

Cheers !

Greetings all you Spookyghost fans,

Well, Christmas is coming and the ghost is getting fat !

Well, trying not too actually… and we need to shed a few pounds, or at least a few CDS and Screwdrivers.

The CDs are all signed by Yours Ghostly and the screwdrivers are just the thing to get you out of about any jam you might get yourself into. Kind of Dr Who “sonic screwdriver” but without the sonic bit and more analogue ! It is inscribed with my motto which is

“If it ain’t broke, take it apart and see how it works”

Hope you come visit

The link is at the bottom or click on a picture to be whisked away to retail therapy.

And Happy Holidays !

Suzanne Vega honors Vaclav Havel

Hi Everyone,

There was a big event in Washington DC this week where there was an unveiling of a bust of Vaclav Havel to commemorate 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution.

Vaclav Havel was a former president of the Czech Republic and leader of the peaceful Velvet Revolution in 1989 that ended the Soviet-Style Communism in Czechoslovakia. He was also a huge music fan and personal friend of many great artists such as Lou Reed and Suzanne Vega.

Suzanne was asked to perform at the ceremony but we had to pass it up as we had a long standing tour date booked in Minneapolis. It was a shame as Suzanne had written a beautiful song inspired by Havel’s vision called Horizon ( A road beyond this one) which would have been perfect for the occasion.

Here is a version of the song from when we performed it at the Royal Albert Hall earlier this year as part off the BBC Folk awards. Alison Balsom guested on Trumpet.

Well as I always say if you can’t have Suzanne perform then you may as well ask Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top if he is free …

It seems he was free and came and did almost comical version of “Baby please don’t go”.

According to Suzanne, Vaclav had a mischievous side and probably would have loved it !

Hope you enjoy

Gerry Leonard Bowie Interview on the Dave Fanning show RTE Radio 2

Hi Everyone,

Well I guess it is Bowie season again with the release of “Nothing Has Changed” the new compilation  of 59 songs from the last 50 years. Kind of amazing really.

2014DavidBowie_NothingHasChanged_2_081014

Gosh I think I am on a bunch of these songs including the rerecording of “Shadow Man” which I have not heard the mix of maybe ever  … I know I played on a version of it because I still have the preset stored in my guitar rig ! Keep those presets, you never know …

Anyhow it was my pleasure to jump on the phone last weekend with the legendary music presenter Dave Fanning from Irish Radio for an interview about my work with David over the years. Dave is the fastest talker I know and it was all I could do to keep up with him, given that the call for me was at 8 am NYC time after a late night gig for me the night before… but I did my best.

You can listen here at this link to the pod cast. Spin on to 1:09 (one hour nine minutes) to hear my interview, and keep listening to hear a great exchange with David and Dave from past interviews.
